Berlin: Stolen e-bike recovered within one hour

Berlin, 19 May 2022. An e-bike was stolen in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick. However, it was located and recovered within an hour thanks to a built-in GPS tracker by IT’S MY BIKE.

The pedelec’s owner reported the theft in the GPS tracker’s associated IT’S MY BIKE app at about 3.20 p.m. The IT’S MY BIKE Bike Hunter Team rapidly sprang into action and the victim also alerted the police immediately. Less than half an hour after reporting the crime, the owner took up pursuit with the police. The Bike Hunter Team stayed in contact over the phone the whole time, providing updates on the e-bike’s position. The stolen item moved from the Treptow-Köpenick district and across the River Spree to an apartment building complex. Luckily, the bike was parked in a courtyard and the tracker provided optimum reception.

The bike was simply standing in the courtyard without being chained up. The building’s residents said they suspected the courtyard was being used as a trafficking point since e-bikes were always being collected together there before being shipped off somewhere else. The police seized the owner’s bike and another pedelec and the determined customer was then able to take her bike back home straight away. Suspects have already been linked to the theft.
