Lübeck: stolen e-bike swiftly recovered

On the night between 21 and 22 November, a thief stole an expensive e-bike from its owner’s home in the German city of Lübeck. Unfortunately for the thief, the bicycle was fitted with an IT’S MY BIKE GPS tracker. This innovative technology enabled the police to recover the bike in just one day with the help of the IT’S MY BIKE team.

The thief took the e-bike shortly after midnight in Lübeck’s St Gertrud district, even though its owner had secured it to the wall of his apartment building with not one but two locks. Nobody saw what he did as a parked car was in the way, so the crime went undetected at first. The owner didn’t notice that the bike was gone until midday the following day but he then contacted the police immediately.

What the thief didn’t know was that the e-bike had not only been secured with two locks but it was also equipped with a concealed GPS tracker. The tracker enabled the police and the IT’S MY BIKE team to locate the e-bike in a garage facility in Lübeck’s St Lorenz district. The officers were able to retrieve it shortly after. The garage landlord provided information that helped identify the thieves. Besides the stolen e-bike, the police also found other high-quality bike components in the garage. Investigation is currently underway to determine whether these components are also stolen goods.
