Bike thieves strike again in Krefeld – an e-bike disappears without trace
It’s the morning of 2 July. Elias S’s* e-bike disappears without trace. He last parked it at his home in the centre of Krefeld. But this is no usual theft because, luckily for him, this bike is fitted with an IT’S MY BIKE GPS tracker. On finding out about the theft of the e-bike, the Bike Hunters from IT’S MY BIKE immediately notify the police. Police officers make their way, together with Elias S.*, to the e-bike’s last known location.
Initially, at the most recent GPS spot near the main railway station in Krefeld, the officers and bike owner sadly do not meet with success. The bike is nowhere to be found. The thief seems to have temporarily hidden it.
A few days later, on 9 July, the Bike Hunters again receive a signal from the stolen e-bike. It’s in a vehicle driving on the A524 motorway, moving at an average speed of 130 km/h about 80 km eastwards towards Dortmund. The motorway traffic police are notified by the Bike Hunter Team straight away and send a patrol car to search for the fleeing vehicle on the motorway.
Hot on the thief’s trail, the officers pull a conspicuous van out off traffic at the Westhofener junction of the A45 motorway, near Schwerte south of Dortmund. Inside the vehicle, they find Elias S*’s stolen e-bike. He is told that it has been found.
