E-bike stolen twice in one month in Tübingen - offenders caught
Caroline A.’s son had left his red e-bike safely locked at Tübingen station for two days. But on 1 September, a thief broke the lock in broad daylight, unnoticed by the public. Around half past nine, the thief makes off with the stolen goods.
Her son noticed the theft the next day and immediately reported it using the IT’S MY BIKE app. In the meantime, the thief has already ridden the stolen bike to Reutlingen, about 15 kilometres away, where he leaves it at the train station. IT’S MY BIKE’s bike hunters are able to follow the thief’s route, but shortly afterwards they lose contact with the GPS tracker.
Two days after the theft, they receive a new signal and the bike reports back from Tübingen Central Station instead of Reutlingen. The IT’S MY BIKE bike hunters informed the local police, who in turn informed the federal police. They confiscate the bike and take a suspect into custody.
Just a month later, on 3 October, Caroline A.’s son was hit again. This time his e-bike is stolen in the city centre. Her son noticed the theft in the middle of the night. Together they report the theft at 00:45 using the IT’S MY BIKE app. Once again, the bike hunters are able to locate the stolen bike thanks to the GPS tracker. The police are informed and the officers follow the signal. Once again it leads to Reutlingen. After a short stop, the thief decides to take the regional train back to Tübingen. Upon arrival at the main station at 8.50 pm, he is arrested and the e-bike is confiscated.
Caroline A. is certain: “I wouldn’t buy another e-bike that is really used regularly and left at school, in town or in other public places without a built-in tracker.
