E-bike thief caught: GPS tracker leads police straight to culprit
On the morning of 2 November 2024 at 11:25, Ulf T*’s e-bike is stolen from the locked courtyard of his home while he is at his son’s football match. A bike thief strikes at this time. Noticing the theft thanks to the motion alarm on the IT’S MY BIKE app, Ulf reports it from the sports field at around 12 o’clock. Luckily, his e-bike is equipped with an IT’S MY BIKE GPS tracker.
The IT’S MY BIKE bike hunters immediately set out to find him. The GPS signal shows that the bike is initially moving through various streets in Dortmund – south from Braunschweiger Strasse via Schleswiger Strasse to Nordmarkt – where the thief initially stays for a short time. IT’S MY BIKE’s bike hunters inform the police. But although the police searched several places for the bike, neither the thief nor the bike could be found.
In the evening, at 7.20 pm, the GPS tracker sounds the alarm again: the bike is on the move. It is being transported south towards the motorway in a van. The police are on their way. Thanks to the precise GPS data, the emergency services manage to stop the vehicle on the hard shoulder at 7.38 pm. They escort the van to a nearby car park, where the e-bike is successfully recovered at 19:49.
