Thieves get cold feet: stolen e-bike returned

Berlin, 8 August 2022. When Petra B.* locked her e-bike to her husband’s bicycle as usual in Goethestrasse, not far from Berlin Zoo, on 8 August, it probably didn’t occur to her that, just a few hours later, strangers would start tampering with the two bicycles.

Petra’s IT’S MY BIKE app first reported unusual movements of her tracked e-bike shortly after midnight on 9 August 2022. Unfortunately, she didn’t read this important message until the next morning but then immediately reported the theft of both bikes.

Working together with the police, our Bike Hunter Team spared no effort in trying to recover the couple’s stolen bikes. On reading the tracker, they were eventually able to see that the thieves first carried both bikes to a nearby playground in a back courtyard and then hid them in one of the surrounding buildings.

The police search of two buildings was unsuccessful, but probably scared the thieves. Not long after the stolen bikes were back in place along with the bike lock.
