Bicycle thieves caught red-handed on Cologne tram
In the early hours of 5 October, at around 3am, a strikingly decorated e-bike was stolen. Tim P.*’s e-bike was locked to a wall in front of his house in the south of Cologne, near the Volksgarten. He noticed the loss at 09:00 in the morning, but didn’t report it until two days later, at 09:48 on 7 October, using the IT’S MY BIKE app. Despite the late report, he doesn’t lose hope because his e-bike is equipped with an IT’S MY BIKE GPS tracker.
The innovative technology of the GPS tracker pays off shortly afterwards: at 12:00, it sends the first signals. The IT’S MY BIKE biker hunters and the police are alerted. With the help of the GPS signal, the bike hunters lead the officers to the centre of Cologne. There, the tracker sends signals from a moving tram.
The police stop the tram at Neumarkt, search the carriages and discover the stolen e-bike. Two suspects are arrested. By 12.30 pm, Tim P. had his e-bike back in his hands.
